Carbon Chopped Fiber & Milled Fiber (Short fiber)
Carbon Chopped Fiber is a product made by chopping carbon fiber tow.
Carbon Milled Fiber is a product made by grinding milling chopped fiber into a powder (milled) form. Chopped fiber is typically around 3 to 6 mm long, while milled fiber is typically less than 200 µm long. Both of these materials are used to enhance the physical properties of thermoplastic resins and rubbers, and to increase electrical and thermal conductivity.

Features
Mitsubishi Chemical’s lineup of short carbon materials can be broadly divided into two types.
One is chopped fiber, made from PAN-based carbon fiber; the other is chopped and milled fiber, made from
pitch-based carbon fiber.
The short-filament (chopped fiber) material made from PAN-based carbon fiber tow is used mainly to improve strength and elasticity, and to enhance electrical conductivity, electromagnetic shielding, fatigue resistance, and wear resistance for improved functionality. It also improves dimensional stability under environmental temperature changes due to its low coefficient of linear thermal expansion.
The short fiber (chopped and milled fiber) material made from pitch-based carbon fiber tow, is used mainly to provide high thermal conductivity, slidability, and to enhance antistatic performance and electrical conductivity.
Mitsubishi Chemical’s short carbon materials combine our own carbon fiber tow and original sizing technology (both of which deliver excellent performance), to provide both process passability and dispersibility during processing, as well as high added value to the matrix that serves as a base material.
Applications
It can be added to various base materials (matrices) such as various thermoplastic and thermosetting resins, cement, concrete, graphite, coal tar, metals, and rubber to provide a variety of enhanced functionality.
