Launch of the KAITEKI Study Group

Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Corporation (MCHC; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hitoshi Ochi) hereby announces that The KAITEKI Institute, Inc. (TKI; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hideki Murayama), the think tank and research institute of the MCHC Group, has commenced joint research by launching the KAITEKI Study Group with the Institute of Economic and Social Systems (IESS; Location: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Chief Director: Kenji Matsuyama), Kikkoman Corporation, and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd. The purpose of the Study Group is to further research and communicate the MCHC Group’s original concept KAITEKI: the sustainable well-being of people, society and our planet Earth. 

The IESS is a new body formed on April 1, 2020 by reorganizing the former Nippon Research Institute. Its aim is to explore and analyze issues that impact socio-economic systems. TKI will collaborate with participating companies of the KAITEKI Study Group to promote research aimed at achieving KAITEKI from a comprehensive viewpoint and to extensively communicate the outcomes.

In April 2019, MCHC and TKI jointly established The Global KAITEKI Center within Arizona State University, USA, and the center commenced research on creating a sustainable society. This initiative has been followed by the launch of the KAITEKI Study Group.

To achieve a sustainable society, the MCHC Group will continue to leverage our strengths, propose solutions to challenges faced by humankind, our societies, and our planet, and create value for society.

The KAITEKI Study Group’s research topics for this fiscal year:

(1) Survey and analysis of public awareness
(2) Analysis of how financial information and/or non-financial information relate to corporate value, and research on how non-financial information should be used and improved as a means of indicating corporate value 
(3) Research on how to achieve closer communication between companies and their stakeholders, such as consumers and workers
(4) Fundamental research on the appropriate criteria for assessing innovation

Overview of the Institute of Economic and Social Systems

Activities:  Investigation, research, and provision of recommendations relating to problems affecting socio-economic systems; commissioned research; organization of training courses, lectures, study groups, international symposiums, etc.; and publication of printed materials, books, etc.
