Mitsubishi Rayon Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Masanao Kambara; hereinafter MRC) is pleased to announce that its microfiltration membrane (SADF membrane), for use with Membrane Bio-Reactor (MBR)-based treatment methods, has been adopted at Singapore’s largest wastewater treatment plant.
Nitto Denko Corporation (Head Office: Osaka, President: Yukio Nagira; hereinafter Nitto Denko) and its wholly-owned subsidiary Hydranautics (Head Office: California, U.S.A.; CEO: Minoru Kikuoka) won the order from Singapore firm Hyflux Ltd. for a microfiltration membrane (HYDRAsub, an MRC-made SADF membrane) for MBR use at Singapore’s largest wastewater treatment plant.
The plant will be built within the Jurong Water Reclamation Plant located in the Jurong District in the western part of Singapore. The treated sewage water to be reused by industries located on Jurong Island, and is scheduled to begin operation in the latter half of 2011.
In February 2008, MRC and Nitto Denko entered into a memorandum of understanding with Singapore’s Public Utilities Board over the development of a new water treatment method using membrane technologies, and have continued to conduct MBR verification tests in Singapore since June 2008. The results obtained through these verification tests led to the winning of this latest order.
Following this order for a large-scale MBR installation, we will further expand orders by combining microfiltration and reverse osmosis membrane technologies in the MBR market, which is expected to see increasing growth in the future.
