Price raise planned on MBS and other
plastic modifiers for customers in East Asia |
|
Mitsubishi Rayon has decided to announce a price
raise of 10% on MBS and the other plastic modifiers. The raise
will go into effect, for all grades of modifier, on shipments
by sea from March 2005 to customers in countries in East Asia.
Talks with the Company’s principal users have already
been initiated. Mitsubishi Rayon implemented
a number of price raise in 2004, but the market prices of the
main raw materials – MMA (methyl methacrylate) monomer,
butadiene, styrene monomer and so on – remain at a high
level owing to the tightness of supply. On the demand side,
meanwhile, demand for MBS and other plastic modifiers remains
strong, most notably in China, and the inventories of the modifiers
have fallen to extremely low levels. Amid
these circumstances, the Company is compelled to pass on the
increase in costs to its customers in order to maintain a sufficient
level of earnings. |
