| Thai Subsidiary Starts Production of
BMA |
|
The Mitsubishi Rayon Group hereby announces that
Thai MMA Co., Ltd., a manufacturing subsidiary operating in
Thailand, has just begun production this month of BMA (butyl
methacrylate) monomer in addition to its existing production
of MMA (methyl methacrylate) monomer. Annual output of BMA will
initially be set at 10,000 tons.
BMA
is used as a raw material in the production of acrylic resins
for paints, and demand for BMA monomer in the countries of the
ASEAN region is currently growing rapidly in line with the steeply
climbing demand for paints for automobiles, motorcycles, and
consumer appliances, as well as for construction use. At present,
the Mitsubishi Rayon Group produces BMA monomer in Japan and
China, and the decision has been made to start additional production
in Thailand to cope with an anticipated further increase in
demand, centered on the automotive industry in that country.
Furthermore, during the course of the regular
maintenance work undertaken by Thai MMA Co., Ltd. at the end
of 2004, an overhaul of the entire system was undertaken, which
resulted in the solution of certain problems that had been acting
as a bottleneck on the plant’s production volume. Thanks
to this, the plant’s annual production capacity of MMA
has been increased by 20,000 tons for a total output of 90,000
per year. |
