Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President Takumi Ubagai) announces that  an opening ceremony was held at a new plant for “Mitsubishi Plastics Converting Film Wuxi Co., Ltd. (MPFW)” on the date noted above upon completion of construction as scheduled. MPFW was established in October 2013 as a subsidiary of Mitsubishi Plastics for manufacturing and sales of converted optical polyester film products such as release film for polarizing plate* used in liquid-crystal display (LCD) TV sets in the Chinese market. MPFW launched production in April 2015 and will commence full-scale sales activities in July 2015.

China is seeing the successive construction of new plants for LCD panels. In response, Mitsubishi Plastics established Mitsubishi Polyester Film Suzhou Co., Ltd. and launched production in 2013 for local production and supply of polyester film used for LCD backlight components and related items.. Further, production of polarizing plate, another type of LCD component, is expected to start full-fledge in China. MPFW was founded in Wuxi at an investment of around 20 Billion Yen to introduce a coating line to produce release film for polarizing plate by coating raw polyester film with silicone and supply to polarizer plate manufacturers who are anticipated to initiate production in China in the near future.   

Mitsubishi Plastics will establish production and sales setup for both polyester film and converted products in China, where new markets are expected to develop, and continue to seek a solid position as the leading company for optical polyester film.

* A type of component that extracts beams of light oscillating in the same direction as the transmission axis from beams oscillating in all directions.
