Completion of the Europe site for the Production of Aluminum Composite Material

Sep. 24, 2014

On September 22, Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President & CEO: Mr. Takumi Ubagai; hereinafter referred to as “MPI”), held a ceremony to mark the completion of construction of the plant (in the city of Wiesbaden in the state of Hessen, Germany) for manufacture and sale of AlpolicTM, a type of aluminum composite panel used mainly as interior and exterior construction material, in the European market.

AlpolicTM is sold in over 130 countries around the world and is widely recognized as a world-class brand of aluminum composite board. At present, it is being produced in Japan at MPI’s Ueda plant (in the city of Ueda, Nagano prefecture) and Tokyo plant (in the city of Ome, Tokyo), and in the United States by Mitsubishi Plastics Composites America (at its plant in Virginia). Sales to Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia have thus far depended on export from Japan. MPI has found it difficult to expand sales in the European region due to the extensive two month transportation period and the high susceptibility to the influence of exchange rate fluctuation. European countries, however, are markets with huge potential and ample margin for expanding sales of AlpolicTM. Germany and other countries apply strict standards for the incombustibility of construction materials, and AlpolicTM is superior in this respect. Similarly, Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia are attractive markets where construction has continued to boom in recent years along with economic development.

In response, on February 2013, MPI decided to establish a new site for manufacture and sale of AlpolicTM within the industrial estate in Wiesbaden, where Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH is sited (this company is engaged in manufacture and sale of polyester film). After making this decision, MPI embarked on construction of the new plant. Because the construction was recently completed, a completion ceremony was held on September 22.

MPI aspires to be the world’s leading manufacturer of aluminum composite material. To this end, we are determined to make effective use of our new site in Europe to expand our sales in high-value-added markets with demands for excellent incombustibility and in the newly emerging markets of Eastern Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia.
