Today, Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takumi Ubagai) held an on-site ceremony to mark the completion of a new production line within its Azai Plant (located in Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture). The line is for production of DIAMIRON, a co-extruded, multi-layered film*1 that has found use for food packaging and in a wide range of other fields.
The co-extruded, multi-layered film DIAMIRON is a high-performance film offering a diversity of features that can be customized in accordance with customer needs in respects such as gas-barrier performance, easy-peel properties, and high heat-resistance. While it has been used mainly as packaging (deep-draw packaging)*2 for foods such as ham and sausage so far, recent years have seen a steady increase in demand for it as packaging for medical equipment such as transfusion bags, gauze, and syringes.
In response to this surging demand, we decided to erect a setup enabling production under a cleaner environment. We therefore constructed the new DIAMIRON production line, which is partially inside a clean room, at a cost of about 1.4 billion yen, and placed it into regular operation.
We have positioned DIAMIRON as one of our growth businesses, and are going to pursue a rigorous reinforcement of business around it in Japan. At the same time, we intend to accelerate marketing for it in Southeast Asia, where standards of living are rising along with economic growth, and proactively develop sales in other countries.
