Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President Takumi Ubagai) hereby announces its decision to install a new production line for KTF, its moisture transmission film used mainly as back sheet for disposable diapers, in the plant of its affiliate in Indonesia. This will be the first production of this item in Indonesia, and is aimed at assisting the development of business in that market, which holds good prospects for demand expansion.
The moisture transmission film KTF is endowed with a microporous structure by the addition of calcium carbonate to polyethylene before stretching. It smoothly transmits water vapor but blocks water drops. This property has led to its use for hygienic items such as disposable diapers and sanitary napkins. So far, the Mitsubishi Plastics Group has produced KTF at its Mizushima Plant (in Kurashiki, Okayama Prefecture) and Tai-Young Film Co., Ltd. (in Taiwan), and sold it mainly in Japan and Taiwan.
In Indonesia, the standard of living is rising along with fast-paced economic growth. There is an increasing demand for disposable diapers that are more comfortable and less prone to become musty, and this is expanding needs for high-quality moisture transmission film. Under these circumstances, we decided to install a new line for production of KTF (with a capacity of 240 million square meters per year) in the building housing the Merak plant of PT. MC PET FILM INDONESIA, a Mitsubishi Plastics Group member engaged in the manufacture and sale of polyester films. The line is being installed at an investment cost of about 1.5 billion yen, and is slated to be placed into commercial operation in the first half of 2015.
We are going to continue considering further enlargement of our production capacity in Asia, where the demand for moisture transmission film is projected to increase rapidly.
