Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takumi Ubagai) announces its launch of sales of DIAWRAPTM ECOPITA! SKYTM, a polyolefin-based blue cling film for food packaging, on January 16. The blue color makes it easy to spot any pieces of the film that have unintentionally been mixed into the food. The product has been developed as part of the Company's DIAWRAPTM series of wrap film for commercial food packaging used in business scene such as restaurants and hotels.
Recent years have seen a rise in the importance attached to management of hygiene and sanitation on the sites of food preparation in businesses such as food services, bakeries, with a view to assuring food safety. On food preparation sites, a colorless transparent wrap film is in use for storage of ingredients and products and in the preparation process. Some customers observed that it was difficult to notice any pieces of wrap which had been mistakenly mixed into food.
In response, the Company has developed DIAWRAPTM ECOPITA! SKYTM, a polyolefin-based wrap film for commercial food packaging colored blue, a color that is seldom used in ordinary foods, in order to make it easier to detect any pieces of wrap that have accidentally found their way into the food. The product is a multilayer film, and the blue comes from coloration of one of the internal layers not in direct contact with the food, using materials that meet the requirements of the Food Sanitation Act.
The Company is aiming for sales of about 100 million yen for this product in fiscal 2015. To this end, the Company is going to deploy a wide-ranging publicity campaign to increase awareness and expand sales of the product targeting businesses in such areas as food services, bakeries. As a leading manufacturer of wrap films and stretch films for commercial food packaging, the Company is committed to continued efforts of product development grounded in customer wants and needs.
