Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President Takumi Ubagai) announces that it has decided to promote employment of the challenged by constructing a greenhouse plant production system with solar light at Nagahama Plant (located in the city of Nagahama, Shiga Prefecture). The system was developed by our subsidiary, Mitsubishi Plastics Agri Dream Co., Ltd. (Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President Katsutoshi Ogihara)
The system is a plant factory for cultivation of vegetables based on a hydroponic system with solar light. Cultivation begins with the growth of seedlings in a completely closed seedling production facility using artificial light. The seedlings are later moved into a greenhouse made with high-performance film that screens out ultraviolet rays and otherwise controls the environmental conditions. The system enables systematic and stable cultivation of vegetables with comparative ease, and has been adopted by numerous facilities employing the challenged as well as by agricultural corporations. It has been given high ratings because the challenged are apt to feel motivated by the work of growing vegetables with it, and is therefore linked to long-term employment.
We are going to install this plant factory on the grounds of its Nagahama Plant and make the most of the features of this system to provide a place of employment for challenged residents in the area. We plan to commence construction of a factory measuring about 900 square meters in September and complete it in February 2014. We plan to expand the factory further in the future.
We are determined to take various approaches toward our aspiration to be a corporate group that will be solidly trusted by its customers and society at large, and for contribution to emergence of the KAITEKI ※1 society as a member of the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group.
