New Line for Aluminum Composite Material Built in Europe

Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (headquartered in Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo: President & CEO: Mr. Takumi Ubagai, hereinafter ‘MPI’) begin producing AlpolicTM, an aluminum composite material, that is mainly used as an interior/exterior construction material, in Germany in spring 2014.  MPI is taking a step forward to grow in  Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia regions which are expected to grow in the future., and will build a new production and sales site in Europe (Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany).

Alpolic, a recognized world-class brand of aluminum composite material is sold in over 130 countries, is currently produced at MPI’s Ueda Plant (located in Ueda-city, Nagano-pref) and Mitsubishi Plastics Composites America (located in Virginia,  USA).  Alpolic is exported from Japan to the markets of Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia.  It was difficult to expand sales in European regions since transportation required two months or more and exchange rate fluctuation had much impact.  However, European countries including Germany have a strict standard for fire-resistance of construction materials, and Alpolic has  gigantic potential for sales increases because of its excellent grade of incombustibility.  Furthermore, East Europe, Turkey and Central Asia are attractive markets where a construction rush has been seen along with  recent economic growth.

Thus, we have decided that we will establish a new line for Alpolic at the industrial complex of Wiesbaden, Hessen, Germany, where Mitsubishi Polyester Film GmbH (hereinafter ‘MFE’), our group company, is engaged in production and sales of Polyester Film.  Investment amount will be Approximately 2 billion yen will be invested and production capacity will become 1.5 million square meters annually.  Construction will start at some time in spring 2013, and with a partnership with MFE operations will start in spring of 2014.

MPI will proactively use the new site in Europe and will expand sales of Alpolic in high value-added markets or in emerging markets including East Europe, Turkey, and Central Asia. where regulations require excellent incombustibility.
