Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President Takumi Ubagai) announces the launch of “DIAMIRON^TM MF-RE TYPE” for food packaging, a new type of “DIAMIRON^TM” with an additional layer having adhesive properties, as of mid-February. The company has been offering the DIAMIRON^TM series, co-extruded multilayer film used for packaging of foods such as hams and sausages as well as for other various uses. The new product has the resealing properties as a film used for deep-drawing vacuum packaging*1 to enhance convenience for the customers. This film is employed by Prima Meat Packers, Ltd., a leading ham/sausage processing company, for packaging of its product “Futatabi Pitatto! (Sticking Again) Series” to be launched nationwide on March 1.
 

 The customers now have difficulty resealing opened deep-drawing vacuum packaging of hams and sausages, and they usually keep uneaten hams and sausages covered with food packaging wrap film or in containers to prevent drying out.

 “DIAMIRON^TM” is co-extruded multilayer film with excellent gas barrier properties, for which a number of different resins are simultaneously extruded for lamination. The new “DIAMIRON^TM MF-RE TYPE” consists of oxygen-barrier layer, pinhole resistance layer, special adhesive layer and seal layer. When the package is opened, the seal layer of the cover material is left on the bottom material and the special adhesive layer located upper in the cover material becomes exposed. With this mechanism the package can be resealed for about five times without impairing the easiness to open, improving convenience for the customers. The product also makes secondary packaging by food wrap film unnecessary, contributing to waste reduction. On top of that food manufacturers can adopt this packaging format with their existing machines.

 The Company will widely promote this packaging with the groundbreaking resealing function to the food industry in an effort to develop new markets. It will also strive to realize the vision of “KAITEKI*2”, advocated by the Mitsubishi Chemical Holdings Group, by developing more products that can meet its customers’ needs.

 

*1: Packaging format consisting of bottom material concaved by thermoforming and flat cover material. “DIAMIRON^TM MF-RE TYPE” is used for cover material.
