Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President Hiroshi Yoshida) has completed the development of ALPOLIC™ A2, an aluminum-plastic composite material rated A2 under Euroclass next-generation fire resistance standards, which are expected to be gradually adopted by EU countries starting in 2010. Mitsubishi Plastics will launch production of ALPOLIC™ A2 in September and aims to use the product to further expand its overseas business.
A three-layer composite panel consisting of a core material (polyethylene, etc.) sandwiched between two skins of aluminum, ALPOLIC™ series products are used in almost 100 countries throughout the world as advertising sign material and industrial material, such as building material, on account of their superior flatness and usability for processing and construction. In particular, ALPOLIC™ /fr, which incorporates a non-combustible inorganic material in its core material and has been certified as a non-combustible material by the Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, has received high praise both in Japan and overseas for many years as a material for the interiors and exteriors of buildings.
In Europe, members of the European Union have begun to adopt Euroclass standards as their fire resistance standard. The Euroclass standard is as strict as German construction standards (DIN), the strictest fire resistance standards in Europe. A2 is the highest rating that a composite panel can receive in the Euroclass system.
There is a strong need for products that have been rated A2 in order to expand orders for construction materials in the European market. Developed by raising the fire resistant capabilities of ALPOLIC™ /fr through a series of improvements, ALPOLIC™ A2 was rated A2 under Euroclass.
By aggressively advertising ALPOLIC™ A2 to design offices both in Japan and overseas, Mitsubishi Plastics will win orders for overseas construction projects, mainly in Europe, and aims to achieve 1.0 billion yen in sales for FY2011.
