MPI Completes Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (head office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; president: Hiroshi Yoshida) has completed a ¥500 million project to build a new facility for manufacturing the zeolite-based desiccant AQSOA™ at its Naoetsu Plant. Today, it held a ceremony at the site to commemorate the completion.
MPI's AQSOA™ is a synthetic zeolite-based material, with several unique features: it can adsorb moisture more efficiently than silica gel, which is generally used as a desiccant, and it releases water vapor (regenerates) at the low temperature range of 40oC to 80oC. It is used in such products as adsorption chillers and desiccant dehumidifiers that use waste heat. AQSOA™'s ability to regenerate at low temperatures enables it to use wastewater and sunlight as a heat source, at temperature ranges that could not be used by conventional materials. This enables AQSOA™ to greatly improve energy savings.
MPI manufactures and sells parts and modules for adsorption chillers and desiccant dehumidifiers using AQSOA™. MPI anticipates a surge in the growth of this market, and has therefore invested ¥500 million in new AQSOA™ manufacturing equipment, as it would not be feasible for its existing equipment to meet this demand.
The new equipment will enable MPI to meet the current demand forecast, supply finished products with more reliable quality, and accurately meet future needs of the energy-efficient device market, which is expected to grow tremendously. This will enable MPI to grow its business and contribute to society through energy conservation.
