Mitsubishi Plastics, Inc. (MPI, Head Office: Chuo-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroshi Yoshida) has completed construction of a new plant at its Santo Plant, one month earlier than scheduled. The new plant is to catch up with an expanding demand for the optical Polyester Film for Flat Panel Display (FPD), and an investment amount has reached YEN13 billion.
Demand for the optical film for FPD has started expanding since 2003 along with growth of LCTV, laptop PC, desktop monitor. MPI has been trying to expand capacity to satisfy such a surging demand. In this regard, TV screen has become wider as well as the fact that the number of TV units shipped has increased and this let us expect further demand expansion and finally we have decided to have a new capital investment.
After that, though sales volumes have declined due to a negative impact of the global recession which occurred in fall of 2008, demand started recovering last spring and we have accomplished almost full operation last fall. We are still in a tight supply-demand balance.
Now we have a new Polyester Film plant today, which has a capacity of 15,000 tons on annual basis, under such a stagnant environment. Our Santo Plant will be the ‘largest optical PET film producer’ across the globe.
MPI will keep developing, producing and selling high performance products and go ahead as a world leader of Polyester Film, with a strong trust given by our customers.
