Production of Formulated Electrolyte for Li-ion Batteries to Start in China
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation ("MCC"; Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi) will establish a new subsidiary in China in February 2012 to manufacture and sell formulated electrolyte for Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs).

Battery production in China is expected to grow rapidly, both for the consumer electronics and for the emerging automotive applications. MCC anticipates a sharp raise in demand for formulated electrolyte in the near future. To meet this strong market demand, MCC will build capacity in China through a new subsidiary, which will manufacture and sell formulated electrolyte. In addition to new operation sites in the UK and the US, which were announced last year, MCC will accelerate the global expansion of its formulated electrolyte business.

The new subsidiary will be the second branch of MCC's battery materials business in China, following Qingdao Anode Kasei Co., Ltd., which was announced in September 2010 and manufactures and markets anode material.

MCC will continue to develop its LiB materials business by providing all four key materials (formulated electrolyte, anode, cathode, and separator). MCC will offer optimal material solutions to meet customer needs, provide the products with consistent quality, and establish a stable global supply network.
