Partially-restarted Operation of the No. 2 Ethylene Plant of the Kashima Plant
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Yoshimitsu Kobayashi) announces that the No. 2 Ethylene Plant of the Kashima Plant (Location: Kamisu-shi, Ibaraki; General manager: Yasuhiro Kajiwara) has restarted operation of 2F-206 cracking furnace today which the suspension order was lifted by the Fire Defense Headquarters of Kashima Southern District, following 2F-201 - 205 cracking furnaces which restarted operations on March 19.

As for one of remaining two cracking furnaces, 2F-207, its inspection and repair have been conducted in order to restart the operation by the end of this year. As for the last 2F-208 cracking furnace the fire broke out, its restart of operation is not in sight yet, although inspection of the damaged condition has been started.

Taking this fire accident seriously, we will make a concerted effort to prevent a recurrence and restore confidence with thorough safety management in the Mitsubishi Chemical Group. We also continue to devote ourselves to secure products for our customers.
