Licensing Production Technology of Bisphenol-A |
|
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation |
|
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Ryuichi Tomizawa, "MCC") and PTT Phenol Company Limited (Head Office: Bangkok, the Kingdom of Thailand; President: Vites Visanuvimol, “PPCL”) have reached a mutual agreement on that MCC licenses its production technology of bisphenol-A (“BPA”) to PPCL on October 2, 2006.
The outline of the agreement is as follows:
(1) MCC will license its production technology to PPCL on the production of BPA (150KT per year). A new manufacturing plant will be completed in Map Ta Phut, the Kingdom of Thailand, and commercial production will be commenced from 2010.
(2) The MCC Group will off-take a certain amount of BPA from the new manufacturing plant and will supply the products to its polycarbonate affiliates.
MCC has positioned the product chain from Phenol, BPA and Polycarbonate resin (“PC”) as one of its strategic core businesses and will further cultivates this chain through plans, which were announced this April, such as expanding the PC production capacity at its Kurosaki Plant and conducting a detail feasible study for establishing a PC and BPA joint venture in China.
MCC has developed its BPA production technology into one of its key and core technologies. MCC’s BPA process, which is based on its proprietary high performance catalyst, realizes superior product quality and cost competitiveness.
This licensing will lead to strengthen MCC’s PC product chain by reinforcing its raw material supply source. Moreover, this licensing will be a significant milestone in the relationship between MCC and the PTT group.
