Increase in Production Capacity of
Performance Polymers for Automobiles in the US
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers, Inc. (Head office: South Carolina, USA; President: Kenichi Ogasawara, hereafter MCPP), a wholly owned subsidiary of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head office: Minato-ku, Tokyo; President: Ryuichi Tomizawa, hereafter MCC), announced today its decision to increase the production capacity of performance polymers for automobiles in the US. The completion of a new 4,600t/y production facility and the start of production are scheduled for June 2007.

Demand for performance polymers is strong in the US, particularly in the market for automobiles, and is continuing to grow at an annual rate of around 10%. In response to this growth market, MCPP decided to construct the new 4,600 t/y production facility for THERMORUN, TPV*1, RABALON, TPS*2 as well as THERMORUN, TPO*3, in addition to the existing production facility for THERMORUN, TPO. General Manager Yoshinao Shinohara, commenting on the expansion plan, said "With this new production facility, we can supply high grade performance polymer products meeting our customers' needs, and thus, strengthen our production and marketing structure in the US."

The MCC Group considers automotive business as one of its strategic targeted areas, and is continuously reinforcing high value added polymer material businesses including strengthening the global rollout of the polypropylene compound business for automobiles. In accordance with this, the MCC Group plans further capital investments in performance polymer businesses in the US in a few years, and to examine developing the global supply network in Europe.
