4.7GB 8x High-Speed DVD+R Data Disc
TOKYO, JAPAN (Sep. 1, 2003) - Mitsubishi Kagaku Media Co., Ltd., (MKM) today announced the launch of a DVD+R disc for data use that is compatible with high-speed 8x writing standards. The new product will be available at selected retail outlets in Japan from early November.

"The trend in DVD is toward higher speeds," said Shigeru Tamura, chief information officer at MKM, "but at the same time, consumers demand compatibility with current machines in both read and write modes. The new 8x DVD+R high-speed writing standards recently announced by the DVD+RW Alliance enable data transfer rates of up to 88Mbps, and allow recording of all the data in a DVD+R disc in about 10 minutes. At the same time, the new disc is compatible with both 2.4x and 4x speeds. In fact, perhaps the most important feature of our new disc is its broad compatibility with current DVD drives, and DVD player/recorders."

The new 8x DVD+R disc is based on MKM's proprietary organic DYN-AZO technology, which produces recording layer with an improved power margin and greater sensitivity that assures stable yet faster recording. Further improvements made in this recording layer technology enabled the company to develop 1-8x discs. The new discs will match the new high-speed 8x recorders soon to hit the market, and they will work perfectly in current 2.4x and 4x drives. When recording at such high speeds, the disc must be perfectly flat to minimize errors. The company uses its well-proved precision molding technology to produce perfectly flat 8x DVD+R discs that offer superior performance on the next generation of DVD drives.

"These new 8x DVD+R discs, which are compatible with the fastest speeds in recording formats,* will broaden our lineup," said Tamura, "and help us meet a wider range of consumer needs. And let me assure you that MKM fully intends to stay in the forefront of our industry by developing new and more valuable products and services for our valued customers."
