TOKYO, JAPAN (Mar. 17, 2003) -- Mitsubishi Chemical Media Co., Ltd., (MKM) today announced the launch of a new lineup of 2x DVD-RW discs for video and data use. The new products will be available at selected retail outlets in Japan from mid-April 2003.
MKM spokesman and CIO Shigeru Tamura said, "The growing recognition of recordable DVD discs as viable backup media both for personal and for office use, for data-heavy contents such as hard-disk backup, video recording, archiving, etc., is a great opportunity for us. We're answering these high-speed recording needs with the introduction of our new 2x DVD-RW discs, which we feel will provide convenience and ease of use in creating state-of-the-art digital environments."
The new DVD-RW discs are based on MKM's proprietary SERL technology, which produces high performance Phase Change recording layers, the combination of precision stamper and precision molding technologies. These technologies hold errors to the bare minimum during high-speed recording, and a high level of stability during playback. Of course, the discs exhibit traditional MKM quality and longevity.
The new product utilizes a shell-white label that makes the most of the special reflection characteristics of DVD discs. "We feel certain that our customers will find this new disc appropriate for retaining valuable contents and records," Tamura said.
The products will be sold in 10-disc packages (an industry first), 5-disc packages, and as single discs. Each disc is accompanied by an original index card.
Product compatibility: DVD-RW Version 1.1/2x-speed DVD-RW revision 1.0
