AIST and MCC Conclude Major Research Agreement
Goal is to stimulate innovation and speed development in key areas |

A landmark collaborative agreement to combine the basic research capabilities
of the National Institute of Advanced Industrial Science and Technology (AIST)
and the technology management expertise of Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC)
was jointly announced in Tokyo by AIST President Hiroyuki Yoshikawa and MCC President
Kanji Shono on December 25.
This new form of public-private collaboration is intended to stimulate and encourage
innovation and to accelerate the development of new scientific technologies in
a number of important fields of research. It is also expected to be a model for
future cooperative research ventures in Japan.
By combining the world renowned basic and applied research and development capabilities
of AIST with the needs-oriented technology management experience of MCC, the initiative
will focus on new scientific approaches, technologies and materials that could
result in the eventual emergence of new industries and numerous advanced products
for the benefit of society.
