Japan Polychem Launches WINTEC
Metallocene-Based PP Random Copolymer
Japan Polychem Corporation
Japan Polychem Corporation (JPC, Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Takayori Tsuboi) is launching WINTEC metallocene-based propylene-ethylene random copolymer (mRCP) with very low melting temperature (VLTm) produced by means of its own catalyst technology.

The three new products designed for CPP (cast film) and OPP (oriented film) have melting temperature at 125 degree C, or 257 degree F, and will be featured for the sealant application (heat sealable film) (see the table attached.) JPC is continuously developing potential application of WINTEC mRCP and its annual sales volume is expected to be 50 KTA in three years.

Metallocene-based RCP of VLTm is superior to the conventional products not only in the physical properties, such as clarity, stiffness, heat resistance, extraction resistance, and processability, but also in the product qualities, such as odor, taste, and bleeding out. These features of WINTEC will provide potential advantage in various applications including food packaging. The most important feature is its low melting point, which enables the sealant users, for example, to seal the packages at the temperature about 10 degree C (18 degree F) lower than conventional products. The lower seal temperature will result in the better retention of content quality secured by the tighter seal, and also major improvement in production rate of packaging with the shortened cycle time.

Metallocene catalyst is a part of the new generation polyolefin technologies and its products have already been commercialized in the field of polyethylene (PE), but not much in polypropylene (PP), so far. There is no precedent for the commercialization of mRCP, especially mRCP of VLTm, due to the difficulty in large-scale production. However, JPC has succeeded in establishing the commercial scale production technology of mRCP using its proprietary catalyst technology last year. As the result of market survey in the various areas, JPC has confirmed the potential to begin the commercial sales of WINTEC mRCP.

WINTEC mRCP has also been successful in various market evaluations, such as extrusion coating, injection molding, sheet, fiber, and non-woven, reflecting its characteristics. JPC will keep expanding the application area and launching the new grade of WINTEC mRCP. JPC will continue comprehensive development of metallocene-based technology including mPEs such as very low density PE (KERNEL mVLDPE) and PP block copolymer (mICP).
