Urea Production Facility of Kurosaki Plant To
Be Discontinued |
|
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation |
|
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Kanji
Shono) has recently decided to discontinue the urea production facility (annual
production capacity: 264,000 tons) of its Kurosaki Plant (Yahata Nishi-ku, Kita-kyushu
City) at the end of September this year.
Urea is primarily used for fertilizers and such industrial products as melamine,
and Mitsubishi Chemical has produced urea for almost half a century since December
1955. For the past several years, however, urea production business in Japan has
faced with severe situation due to the rise of raw materials cost and increased
imports of less expensive products. In addition, since new plants to manufacture
urea are scheduled to open in Southeast Asia and Middle East in the future, the
company had been urged to make a decision on the continuation of the business
and thus decided to discontinue its urea production facility.
Regarding the urea for industrial use, the company will continue to ship its inventory
for a certain period of time even after October this year to avoid inconvenience
at the side of its customers. As to the business of chemical synthetic fertilizers
and melamine of the Mitsubishi Chemical Group companies, we will continue to operate
the business by outsourcing the raw material of urea.
