Introduction of Fishing Line Using New Compound Material
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation
Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (Head Office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo, President: Akira Miura)is proud to announce that it has developed a composite material called "Fluoro-Nylon" featuring the respective advantages of fluorine resin and nylon resin. "Fluoro-Nylon" isused in a fishing line called "Flowstone", and will be introduced to the market at the beginning of June. The price for 150 meters of No. 2 line is tentatively set at 2,000 yen, and sales are projected to reach 200 million yen this year, growing to more than 1 billion yen in a few years.

Currently, the fishing line market is comprised of products made from nylon resin and those made from fluorine resin. Nylon fishing line is known for its great strength, and fluorine fishing line for its superior resistance to water.

In order to boost the strength of fishing line, a special fluorine resin was added to a special nylon resin base with a high molecular weight, with the surface then being coatedwith fluorine resin. This created a fishing line with superior resistance to water and great strength.

Field testing of Flowstone showed it is resistant to twisting, has good tension, and feeds out smoothly from the reel.

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation has been involved in the production of fluorine resin fishing line since 1986, with yearly sales now amounting to 500 million yen. The technology and expertise nurtured to date will be used to further expand the scope ofthe company's involvement in this field.
