MCC's Subsidiary Renamed Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers (Thailand) Plans Building a New Thermoplastic Elastomer Production Facility
Mitsubishi Chemcial Corporation

Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC; Head office: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; President: Hiroaki Ishizuka) today announced that its performance polymers subsidiary in Thailand, Sunprene (Thailand) Co., Ltd., will change its name to Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers (Thailand) Co., Ltd., effective August 1.

The company had used SUNPRENE™, the brand of its polyvinyl chloride (PVC) compound, as its company name, and manufactured and supplied polymer compounds for automobile interior and exterior components and building materials. Now, with its new name and expanded product portfolio in addition to PVC compounds, it will more clearly be under the Mitsubishi Chemical umbrella, which aims to enhance its brand image within Thailand, and to identify it as an MCC performance polymers business.

In addition, Southeast Asia’s demand for performance polymers is expected to increase, especially for automotive and construction use. To meet this increase in demand, the company will expand its performance polymer production capacity at the Amata Nakorn plant in a suburb of Bangkok by building a new production facility for thermoplastic elastomers*. The new production facility is scheduled to go on line in the second quarter of fiscal 2015.

MCC has moved ahead aggressively with mergers and acquisitions in the performance polymers business, expanding into Europe, North America, and other world markets. Among its performance polymer business network of 18 bases in 13 countries, Mitsubishi Chemical Performance Polymers (Thailand) is the fifth company to operate under the Mitsubishi name, following companies in the U.S., Brazil, the Netherlands, and China. MCC will further accelerate its global business efforts by positioning the Thai company as the major manufacturing center in Southeast Asia.

*Thermoplastic elastomers are materials that have the characteristics of both rubber and plastic. They are used in automobile interior components, pen grips, and other products.
